On October 23, a portion of East Liberty Street near the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor was briefly deluged with 11,000 glowing books, providing the ambiance a blissful escape from continuous honking and choking emissions from vehicles.

Spanish design collective Luzinterruptus, came up with the idea of the installation, entitled Literature vs Traffic, to draw attention to the importance of peaceful, pedestrian-friendly spaces, notes Tree Hugger.

Luzinterruptus’ website reads that the transformation of an area, tainted by noise and pollution, into a quiet and calm space illuminated by vague lights coming from the books will be a memorable experience, writes The Michigan Daily. The visitors were invited to take the books along after a 24-hour show, returning the streets to their usual masters.
