Couch-potatoes are going to love this! The researchers at Yale University have developed a “robotic skin,” which when wrapped around an inanimate object, turns it into a controllable, moving robot.

The skin is fabricated from sheets of elastic, embedded with sensors and actuators, which allow one to program the movements of the object or to hold it, an ability that can be put to use in a number of applications, writes Futurism.

Such a robotic skin can be useful in space exploration missions as it can help astronauts adapt available objects to perform unforeseen tasks, notes Popular Science. Other potential applications include creating a posture-correcting shirt or an assembly to grab objects using this robotic skin.
