In a heart-rending turn of events, Saman Gunan, a former navy Seal involved in operations to rescue the Thai group trapped in a cave, died after losing consciousness in one of the passageways on Thursday.

The tragedy is a ruthless reminder of the dangers in ferrying supplies from the mouth of the cave to the chamber where 12 boys and their coach have taken refuge, reports the BBC. The oxygen levels have fallen below 15 percent as opposed to normal 21 percent in the cave, posing another risk when the rescuers are racing against time to the get the team out.

The Boring Company, founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk, has contacted the Thai government, offering to send its people from the U.S. for any kind of support on the ground, notes The Guardian.
