Several hundreds of compounds present in human breath can give away signs of illnesses, including early-stage cancers. The researchers at Loughborough University seek to leverage this property of human breathe using an AI system trained to “read” the traces left by odours.

This deep learning system accumulates knowledge over time as it analyzes more and more samples while dramatically speeding up the time-consuming job of manually analyzing breathe samples, notes

The technology also makes the process cheaper and more reliable, promising applications in a variety of fields such as medicine, forensics, environmental analysis and others, reports The Wire.
