Belgium’s Interior Minister, Jan Jambon, revealed that Benjamin Herman, the gunman who shot dead two police officers and a civilian in the city of Liege on Tuesday, had killed another person the night before.

The authorities are yet to establish the motive but the gunman was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest" in Arabic), indicating that he may have been radicalized in jail, before walking out on temporary release on Monday, reports the BBC.

The state security reports on radicalization indirectly mentioned Herman, a repeat offender, but he was not on a watchlist, according to the Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel, notes The Guardian.
