President Donald Trump is set to announce on Tuesday whether the U.S. will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal or stay in it as European allies watch Washington’s most significant foreign policy move with bated breath.

Trump, a fierce critic of the lenient Iran deal, is expected to scrap the Obama-era pact even as the European leaders, including the heads of France, Germany and the U.K., warn of the consequences such a decision would lead to, notes The Guardian.

Trump’s move to scrap the deal and reintroduce sanctions on Tehran would be a setback for foreign businesses operating in Iran, writes Reuters. Abandoning the deal would also undo the diplomatic headway in previous years, virtually freeing up Iran to revert to its nuclear program.
