Thousands of Armenians took to the streets in the capital Yerevan after talks between the ruling Republican party and the opposition leaders over the transition of power fell apart on Wednesday.

Two weeks of protest led by the opposition leader, Nikol Pashinyan, forced Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan to quit the office over allegations that he manipulated the constitution to cling on to power, writes the BBC.

Pashiyan called on the Armenians to protest against handover of power to the ruling party’s representative, demanding fresh elections, notes The Guardian.
