In an experiment aimed at generating new understandings of human interactions with the natural world, German artist Carsten Höller and plant neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso have installed two monumental slides at Florence’s Famed Palazzo Strozzi.

“The Florence experiment” involves participants riding down the slides with a plant accompanying them, as excerpts from comedies and horror films run on a screen in the laboratory, writes Design Boom.

The volatile chemical compounds produced by audience’s diverging reactions are channeled via a labyrinth of pipes to wisteria plant vines on the façade. The impact of these compounds is visually manifested in the direction of growth of these plants.
