Just days after the U.S., the U.K. and France launched joint military strikes in Syria French President Emmanuel Macron said that he convinced his American counterpart not to pull troops out of the war-torn nation and to limit air raids only to chemical weapons facilities.

The strikes on Syria last week have fueled tensions between the Western world and Russia, which has warned that a repeat of such action could lead to “international chaos,” writes the BBC.

The U.S. is set to impose a second tranche of economic sanctions on Russia or Syria over the alleged chemical attack, however, Moscow’s close ties with some EU members may complicate and delay a punitive action from the bloc, notes Reuters.
