At the International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces held in Tokyo last month, a group of researchers from MIT Media Lab showed off a device, called the AlterEgo, which is a mask-shaped gadget that lets one “talk” to computers without uttering a word.

The device picks up otherwise imperceptible signals that your brain relays to your mouth when you think of any word, writes New Scientist.

This direct transmission of thoughts to computers brings us a step closer to seamless communication between man and machines, in a manner that’s not invasive and maintains privacy, notes Futurism.
