Al-Sisi’s win a done deal as Egypt heads to election

A landslide victory is on cards for Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi as the country begins three days of voting to elect a new president in a contest that’s heavily lopsided towards the incumbent leader.

Critics have dubbed the presidential polls as a farce after a majority of the credible challengers withdrew their nominations alleging repression by the regime, notes Reuters.

With al-Sisi’s win a certainty, the government machinery is focused on boosting the voter turnout numbers through radio and television ads, requesting the people to “participate at every step,” writes The Guardian
