Translating Chinese into English is a tough nut to crack even for human translators let alone any machine. An AI program, developed by Microsoft after years of toiling, has achieved “human parity” in translating Chinese news articles into English, an accomplishment that left even the makers bemused and surprised.

Microsoft, which seeks to catch up with Google’s dominance in the field of translation, called the development a “major milestone,” notes AI News.

Ming Zhou, assistant managing director of Microsoft Research Asia, says the next target is to tailor an AI system for real-time translation of news, writes Futurism.
