Timnit Gebru, who co-founded “Black in AI,” a platform where people of color can share ideas, collaborate and discuss initiatives related to artificial intelligence, says this technology is faced with a diversity crisis owing to its unintentional yet inherent bias.

Gebru stresses diversity not only in datasets but in the fraternity of researchers also so that AI solutions are developed with a keen eye on the social context of problems, writes MIT Technology Review.

Gebru calls for a comprehensive set of guidelines for the application of machine learning for certain purposes, which is required to address the issues of fairness, accountability, ethics, and transparency in AI.
