In a move that marks a dramatic escalation of pressure on embattled South African President Jacob Zuma, the country’s elite police unit raided the home of the influential Gupta family that has close ties with the tainted leader.

The wealthy Gupta family is accused of pocketing millions of dollars from the Estina dairy farm near Vrede, in the Free State, a project that was meant for the welfare of poor black farmers, writes the BBC.

The move comes as a promising sign that Cyril Ramaphosa, the new head of the African National Congress (ANC), will come down heavily against graft and mismanagement that thrived under Zuma’s tenure, notes The Guardian.
