issues of Hong Kong and human rights with President Xi Jinping, amid growing calls that the U.K. must stand up to Beijing’s heavy-handedness against democracy leaders.

May’s remarks came after Joshua Wong, Hong Kong’s pro-democracy champion, urged the leader to confront Xi over the erosion of the territory’s political freedom in recent years, notes The Guardian.

May, accompanied by a delegate of 50 British business leaders, will also emphasize on forging new trade agreements with China as it seeks to secure its post-Brexit future, writes Mail Online.
