Microsoft founder Bill Gates has donated $40 million for a genetic research project aimed at creating the “Perfect” cow, which will produce as much milk as the European strains while enduring the heat conditions at par with the African breeds.

An Edinburgh-based nonprofit, GALVmed (Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines), which provides livestock medicines and vaccines to deprived farmers, will carry out this “potentially transforming” research, notes Futurism.

Despite warnings that cows and dairy products contribute to environmental degradation, Gates believes the research can help fight global poverty and starvation, especially in the countries with a substantial share of livestock farming, writes Business Insider.
