At least 11 soldiers were killed and 16 others wounded after five militants, affiliated to Islamic State, struck an army outpost near one of Afghanistan’s main military academies in Kabul on Monday.

The attackers, armed with rocket launchers and AK-47 assault rifles, opened indiscriminate fire and carried out several explosions before two of them blew themselves up, writes the BBC. One of the assailants was nabbed while other two were killed by the security forces.

The terror strike, the fourth in a span of ten days, raises questions on the effectiveness of “a new, more aggressive U.S. strategy” in Afghanistan, writes Reuters. Last week, Taliban militants launched an attack in Kabul killing at least 100 people while Islamic State targeted the office of an international charity Save the Children.
