Video game disorder, which is characterized by persistent behavior pattern despite negative consequences, could find a place in the World Health Organization’s upcoming 11th International Classification of Disease.

The draft of the list, which is yet to be approved by the WHO, classifies gaming disorder under the parent category “Disorders due to addictive behaviors,” writes Futurism.

The psychologist fraternity, however, remains divided over the proposed inclusion, with Chris Ferguson, a professor of psychology at Stetson University in Florida, pointing out WHO’s confusion in differentiating “Internet Gaming Disorder” from gaming disorder, notes CNN.
