For the first time, two artificial intelligence programs - BABA by Alibaba and MSFT by Microsoft - outperformed humans in a Stanford University reading comprehension test, a feat that reflects the growing language capabilities of machines.

While human participants recorded the highest score of 82.304, MSFT and BABA came on top with a slender margin scoring 82.650 and 82.44 respectively, writes CNN. Such tests serve as an indicator of our progress in the AI journey.

Machine reading technology holds promise for various applications including automated customer service and improving targeted advertising, notes Futurism.
