U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly made a foul-mouthed reference to immigrants pouring in from Haiti and other African countries as he questioned the need for accepting people from “shithole countries.”

Trump’s “unkind, divisive, elitist” remark as Utah Republican and the only Haitian-American in Congress, Mia Love, described it, came during a bipartisan discussion on a newly drafted immigration bill in the White House, writes the BBC.

Many Democrats and Republicans condemned the president’s expletive-laden language, which they said smacked of blatant racism disguised poorly as immigration policy, notes Reuters. The White House issued a statement defending Trump’s stance, saying that the president would always fight for the interests of American people and society.
