An Iranian oil tanker, enveloped in fire and toxic fumes, continued to blaze off China’s east coast for a second day after colliding with a cargo ship as fears of a deadly explosion and environmental disaster mount.

The U.S. Navy has joined the search and rescue efforts, which span over an area of approximately 3,600 square nautical miles to locate 32 missing crew, notes the BBC.

The tanker, Sanchi, which has onboard 136,000 tonnes of light oil, is in “danger of exploding or sinking,” which could potentially be the second largest disaster since 260,000 tonnes of oil spilled off the Angolan coast in 1991, writes Reuters.
