U.S. President Donald Trump, who recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel last month, drew criticism on Wednesday after he threatened to halt U.S. aid payment to Palestinians over their unwillingness to talk peace.

While Palestinians denounced Trump’s “blackmail,” a former Israeli peace negotiator cautioned the U.S. president about the consequences of blocking financial aid to Palestinians, writes Reuters.

Trump’s remark on Palestine comes on the heels of his tweet that chided Pakistan for “lies and deceit” in return for billions of dollars received in aid from the U.S., notes the BBC.
