China announces grand three-year plan for AI

China has its sight set on radically transforming its economy with emerging Artificial Intelligence technology, as revealed by its grand three-year plan that outlines how the country will fuel the development of AI from 2018 to 2020.

According to a document released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the country is focusing on leveraging AI to make manufacturing more eco-friendly while cranking up the energy efficiency by 10 percent, writes MIT Technology Review.

AI, expected to account for $15.7 trillion worldwide by 2030, has risen as the new turf for international competition, and China seeks to seize the opportunity with advances in intelligent robotics, vehicles, virtual and augmented reality, notes Bloomberg
