Scotland is really pushing the envelope for the rest of the world when it comes to embracing renewable sources of energy. The European nation is sprinting towards its target of producing 100% of its electricity from renewables by 2020.

This is not a surprising feat for those aware of Scotland’s track record in promoting and adopting environment-friendly practices, writes Green Matters. The country rushed to its goal of cutting 42% emissions five years in advance.

Other countries or cities are also cutting their reliance on fossil fuels but their timescales aren’t as ambitious, notes Futurism. For example, California plans a complete shift to renewables by 2045.
