U.S. President Donald Trump heaped praise on his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Thursday, reminding the leader of the need to “work hard” to rein in North Korea’s menacing nuclear ambitions.

In a stark reversal from his critical view of Beijing over trade deficit, Trump absolved China of any wrongdoing, instead crediting the Asian state for taking advantage of another country for the benefits of its own citizens, writes the BBC.

During his eight-minute address at the Great Hall of the People, Trump also announced the signing of commercial deals worth nearly $250 billion between the U.S. and Chinese firms, a development described by a Beijing official  as “truly a miracle,” notes The Guardian.
