Following a serious and prolonged standoff between the Indian and Chinese troops at the Doklam plateau in the Himalayan region, the two countries agreed on an “expeditious disengagement” of troops from the site on Monday.

However, immediately after the announcement by India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China reiterated its claim over the disputed site, adding that it would continue to patrol the Doklam region to protect its sovereignty rights, notes Al Jazeera.

Either side made no mention of the road whose construction sparked a wave of rhetoric over a span of two months, writes Hindustan Times.
