As Japan gears up for hosting the 2020 Olympics, Panasonic wants to deploy a fleet of self-driving wheelchairs around major airports across the country, making the environment easily accessible for people with limited mobility.

With a couple of taps on a dedicated smartphone app, a traveler can summon the wheelchair, which will wheel the passenger through check-in and finally to the ultimate destination on the airport premises, notes Digital Trends.

The wheelchairs are equipped with sensors that identify its position, navigating routes, any obstacles and also sync with luggage carts to trundle around in tandem, writes Mail Online.
