Elena Larriba, a graduate from Royal College of Art, has designed a human-powered vertical transportation system that could be an ideal replacement for bulky stairs and power-hungry elevators in skyscrapers.

Dubbed Vycle, the system is a compact, space-saving arrangement that easily hooks to the side of buildings, scaffolding or cranes and offering a better design solution in densely packed cities where space is at a premium, writes Dezeen.

The innovative system sits between traditional lifts and stairs, delivering two-fold benefits – firstly it presents a more efficient and sustainable option to ascend and secondly, it can be adjusted for people of different ages and abilities, notes Tree Hugger.
