Alarm bells are ringing for journalists as Internet giant Google is funding a new software project, called “Reporters and Data and Robots” for automating the process of news writing.

The company has shelled out $805,000 to the Press Association (PA) news wire for the project that will see robots writing at least 30,000 news stories monthly for local publication, writes Digital Trends.

The automation software, designed by Urbs Media, sifts through large public databases from government agencies or local law enforcement and frames the information into words using Natural Language Generation technology, notes Recode.
