Dutch designers, Rianne Makkink and Juergen Bey, want to change the mindset that sees human excrement as disgusting and unhygienic. The duo has designed wheelie-bin toilets that don’t flush away human waste but collect it before turning it into electricity and manure.

The idea behind the Compost Kliko Toilet is to encourage people to exploit the useful properties of their faeces and urine and not just discard them away, notes Dezeen.

Recently, a lot of projects have focused on providing innovative solutions for safe, affordable and environment-friendly sanitation. An example, Africa is set to test new cheap, waterless and energy-producing toilet developed by scientists in the U.K., writes Science Alert.
