Power-Blox, a Swiss company, has designed innovative energy storage devices that can be stacked together and scaled up to serve as an autonomous power grid for storing and distributing electricity via multiple inputs.

The system, based on "Swarm Power" technology, lets a user easily build “plug and power” micro-grids without any “engineering, calculations or manual,” writes Alternative Energy HQ.

The approach, inspired by nature’s mechanism of managing the most complex systems in a swarm, features a fully decentralized architecture, which means the entire set-up won’t get dysfunctional if a single unit breaks down, notes Tree Hugger.
