Suntory to buy U.S.'s Beam for $16B

Suntory Holdings announced it plans to acquire Beam Inc. for $16 billion, including the assumption of Beam's outstanding net debt. Suntory's offer for Beam of $83.50 a share is a 25% premium over Friday's closing price. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter, subject to Beam stockholder and regulatory approvals. The boards of both companies have approved the takeover.  The deal will make the Japanese company the world's third-largest maker of distilled drinks.
