A labour union official has been shot dead outside her home at Lonmin's Marikana mine complex, where 34 striking miners were killed by police almost a year ago to the day. It is not yet clear whether the killing is connected to the continuing tension between the National Union of Mineworkers, for which she was a stop steward, and the newer, more militant Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union.
