On Monday, Pakistani Taliban withdrew offers to hold peace talks with the government on the heels of a suicide attack in northwestern Pakistan. Government officials displayed their willingness to negotiate, and drop contested demands, last month but Taliban representatives have since derided their efforts as "non-serious." The withdrawal comes as Taliban counterparts in Afghanistan continue nascent talks with President Karzai's political opposition in advance of the 2014 pullout of foreign troops from the country.
