During a nationally televised speech Monday, the Dutch Queen Beatrix announced she will abdicate her throne on April 30. The Queen's widely expected announcement means her eldest son, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, will become the country's first king in over a century. At 75, Beatrix is the oldest ever Dutch monarch--she has held her largely ceremonial role since 1980.
