Reforest Patagonia uses social media to preserve forests

With the help of social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter, Reforest Patagonia was able to plant 100,000 native-species trees. The feature allows donors to log in through a social media site, select burnt trees from a map, purchase new trees to plant in their place, and receive a reforesting certification visible on their social media profile. The Chilean organization plans to have one million trees planted by the end of this year. A massive wildfire destroyed more than 42,000 acres of Patagonia in Chile's Torres del Paine National Park earlier this year.
