To let go of the guilt of wrecking our planet by contributing to a plastic recycling initiative is ludicrously naïve on our part if not outright complicity in a crime. It’s a long-nourished myth that recycling can fix plastic pollution as it only reroutes a trouble that should be uprooted once and for all.

Encouraging people to recycle might appear environmentally benevolent but it is a tacit support for the mass production of single-use plastics, notes Scientific American. This narrative has obscured the real problem and shifted focus on consumer recycling behavior instead of holding producers accountable in the first place.

Similarly, plastic bans are no far-sighted solution with all the force and will they need to be truly implemented, reports The Breeze.
