A day after rial’s collapse sparked mass protests in Grand Bazaar in Tehran, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on the judiciary to act against those “who disrupt economic security.”

Iran’s currency has nosedived by almost 50 percent on the foreign exchange market over the past six months, raising the costs of imported goods and driving up the inflation rate, notes Al Jazeera.

The economic crisis has propelled the Iranian regime into trouble, fueling popular distrust and frustration over President Hassan Rohani’s failure to keep electoral promises on creating new jobs, implementing economic reforms and improving human rights, reports Haaretz.
