French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has condemned the “extraterritoriality” of Washington’s decision to reintroduce sanctions on companies trading with Iran, adding that the Europeans should not bear the brunt of the U.S. exit from Iran deal.

The U.S., after pulling out of the historic nuclear accord with Iran, set a six months deadline for businesses to halt operations in Iran failing which they would face new sanctions, notes the BBC.

In an interview, Le Drian made no attempts to mask the deepening rift between Washington and its European allies on Iran issue, adding that the Europeans will negotiate with the U.S. and thrash out necessary measures to protect the interests of their companies, reports Channels.
