An inherent trait of urban living in the future would be automation, with existing governance systems extended and molded into smarter versions, offering a host of services across sectors via robot fleets and autonomous machines.

The automated cities of future may shape up in three different models as depicted by the trajectory and objectives of automation in Tokyo, Singapore and Dubai, writes Smithsonian.com.

While Tokyo explores new robotic technologies for economic reinvigoration and cultural branding ahead of 2020 Olympics, Singapore is deploying robots to better manage and control the city. Dubai, aspiring to be the “happiest city on Earth,” is testing out flying taxis, robot police officers and other sci-fi novelties.

Next generation technologies and automation could blur the lines between segments and industries, for example, shifts like car as living space or office, home-based healthcare, etc., notes CISION.
