The White House said that the U.S. “stands in solidarity” with British Prime Minister Theresa May’s decision to expel 23 Russian diplomats in response to a nerve agent attack on an ex-spy in the U.K.

The U.S. echoed the allegations of “its closest ally” the U.K. as it blasted Moscow for subverting and discrediting democratic institutions in the Western countries, notes the BBC.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson slammed Moscow’s “smug, sarcastic response” in the wake of the attack on double agent Sergei Skripal, adding that the chemical used in the assault is developed only by Russia, writes The Guardian.
