Digital Twin technology, rated as one of Gartner’s Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2017, is transforming how businesses across the world are developing, designing and testing their products and services.

Digital Twin technology, first developed and applied by NASA, involves creating digital replica of products and services, which act as proxy models for makers to check the functioning beforehand in virtual environment, notes Analytics Insight.

The approach, also referred to as “Device Shadow,” lets industries cut down overhead expenditures and downtimes related to fixing issues in physical machines, a benefit that may soon push the use of this technology in most of the IoT platforms.

The U.K. faces calls to create a digital twin of its infrastructure to predict how the country should adapt if London’s population swells by 50 percent by 2050, notes Out-Law.com
