Given that one-third of the food produced globally ends up in trash bins every year, an online app OLIO is providing a platform where users can upload the images of surplus veggies, canned goods, leftover meals, etc. and share the items with those in need.

To its credit the food sharing app has 322,000 registered users, who have carried out over 400,000 transactions in the U.K., demonstrating the power of networked society in bolstering circular economy, writes Inhabitat.

By collaborating with cafes and stores at scale, the app has already eroded the £13bn figure, which is the worth of edible food trashed in the U.K. every year, notes Pebble Magazine
