Deserted coal mines get second life as solar farm

Dec 26, 2017, 6:24 AM EST

The pitch black coal mines could be turned into a site bright for environment and energy – that’s the message sent out by a solar farm in the eastern Chinese city of Huainan.

The 150-megawatt floating facility nestles on an abandoned coal mine that once fed 20 percent of China’s coal demands, notes Green Matters.

The trend to turn deserted coal mines into solar farms is picking steam globally with the U.S. and Germany also closely trailing China, the country that has the largest installed photovoltaic power.
