Japanese web company GMO Internet will start paying a portion of salaries to its employees in Bitcoin from February, a step which the firm says, will improve its own literacy of the cryptocurrency.

Initially, a few of the company’s employees will be paid between 10,000 yen (around $88) and 100,000 yen in Bitcoin and gradually the initiative will expand to the entire workforce, notes Futurism.

Bitcoin has seen a dramatic surge recently, with its valuation soaring from about $1,000 in January to $17,000 last week, writes The Guardian
