Artificial Intelligence is expanding its boundaries beyond computers and self-driving cars, proving to be a powerful technology for astronomers in decoding the Universe’s mysteries and discovering new planets, dark matter and gravitational waves.

Recently, a machine learning system developed by Google helped U.S. space agency NASA to track planetary transits by scanning over 35,000 possible planetary signals gathered using a telescope, which marks the first time where AI is applied for discovering new planets, notes Wired.

The newly-discovered planet, called the Kepler-90i, encourages astronomers to further      employ the AI technology to Kepler's full set of over 150,000 stars and analyze complex and huge troves of data that can’t be processed by humans, writes The Star.
