U.S. to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

In a departure from decades of U.S. policy, President Donald Trump is set to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday, a declaration that could thwart the complex peace process in the Middle East.

Trump’s announcement, which Saudi Arabia described as a “flagrant provocation to Muslims” will make the U.S. the first nation in the world to designate Jerusalem as Israeli capital, writes the BBC.

Meanwhile, Trump has signed a waiver to the U.S. law that requires the country to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem until the new embassy is completed and opened, notes The Guardian
