Trump skips deadline to shift U.S. embassy to Jerusalem

Amid warnings at home and from global leaders, President Donald Trump has missed the deadline to shift the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the contested city that both Israelis and Palestinians claim as their capital.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron echoed the voice of the Arab and wider Islamic world as he urged Trump to stay “within the framework of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians,” while taking any decision on the status of the disputed city, notes the BBC.

The U.S. President’s “foot-dragging” follows stark warnings from a number of nations that are concerned a shift in Jerusalem’s status could hit the fragile peace process in the region and stoke new unrest, writes The Guardian
