The probe investigating the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election indicted three former aides of President Donald Trump, including an election campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

The charge pressed against Papadopoulos are potentially damaging for the U.S. President as they link directly to his election campaign, notes the BBC. Papadopoulos admitted that he lied to the investigators about meeting two Russian operatives before joining the campaign although he met them while serving as a Trump foreign policy adviser.

Trump vented out his frustration on Twitter as he raised questions on why Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation fails to focus on “Crooked Hillary & the Dems,” writes Reuters
