We have heard age-old stories of pigeons being used as conduits to send messages from one part of the world to another, and now, there’s a Dutch startup, called Crowded Cities, which seeks to train crows to pick up cigarette butts littered on streets across major cities.

Designers Ruben Van Der Vleuten and Bob Spikman, the brains behind the flamboyant idea, have proposed a smart machine “crowbar” that will autonomously train the birds in four steps, notes Design Boom.

The idea of roping in crows to identify and pick cigarette butts may not be as “crazy” as it sounds given the fact that the corvids are among the most intelligent creatures in the animal kingdom, capable of using tools, nursing grudges and even holding funerals, writes Mental Floss.
